It is there now and will be there for evermore. You were born with that awareness already there. The only thing that remains through the change is awareness itself. You're aware of the clouds passing, you're aware of your identity, you're aware of the things you own, your emotions. If your identity is an accumulation which can change, your physical body can and does change, your environment is constantly changing than where are YOU? What IS the past, what IS the present, and what IS the future? Where am "I" in all of this? Everything is changing, from the clouds in the sky to the cells in your body which are completely replaced in 7 years time. What is interesting is when we ask ourselves what it is. We make decisions based upon what we have done in the past, so we can do different now for a better future. Everything we do is designed to keep us safe and happy. The basic principle behind this system is two things. We think in terms of past, present, and future. The way the mind operates can be broken down to three dimensions. These things that you call "you" are things that could have been different and could be changed at any point upon decision to do so. You aka your ego is a accumulation of ideas. To see the mind of what it is we have to do two things, understand how it came to be, and to directly examine it from a detached inner perspective. To see the mind for what it is, so you can see what's behind the mind. The idea behind the medidation here is two main points. It just reminds me of Bankei's.īefore I go too far I want to also state that the words I use can not fully encompass the truth of the experience, different words can be used and you can come to the same outcome. This is not an exact replication of Bankei Yotakus method, but it is my own. There are several ways to the top of the mountain, so I'm not claiming this to be the only way to come to experience pure awareness, but it is a very direct way to do so. His teachings practically mirrored the pure awareness that unfolded in me. Years later, I learned of a Zen master named Bankei Yotaku.
